I am Erekle Chinchilakashvili, a multidisciplinary artist from Tbilisi, Georgia. My work focuses on the intersections of reality and imagination, where I explore the fragility of human perception, its constant state of flux, and its ongoing transformation. I engage with various media, including painting, installation, and video. I primarily use these forms to examine themes of individual and collective memory and how they lead to forming certain cultural identities. Also, I am deeply interested in social and cultural anthropology. My practice attempts to look at various issues emerging from this field through the prism of art-making.

My creative process is deeply introspective and speculative. I delve into my consciousness to unearth images and memories that have faded or become detached from their original contexts, bringing them into the present to form new constellations. Through art-making, I attempt to be aware of how the mechanisms behind my shifting perceptions independently determine which memories rise to the surface of my conscious mind and which linger in the deeper layers of my psyche. The attempts are sometimes successful, other times not. But, it is not the results, that matter, but the road itself.

By selecting and combining diverse visual materials—ranging from archival images to my earlier paintings and drawings—I construct new pseudo-realities by cropping and reconfiguring the older ones. These layered memory spaces are saturated with emotion and attempt to invite a confrontation with the viewer, offering the dual possibility of revelation and transformation of experience.
