Erekle Chinchilakashvili (b. 1992, Tbilisi) is a multidisciplinary artist-researcher based in Budapest, working across painting, installation, and video. He is drawn to the concept of memory, moving between individual and collective forms — from personal recollections to the cultural and generational memory of specific societies. He often addresses their transformation across history, from the pre-modern world to contemporary processes.

His projects are site-specific, taking the memory of a space — its past and its context — as the starting point, building through research that runs before and alongside the making.

His work grows out of visual citations to the narratives of art history, archaeology, and anthropology — Georgian church frescoes, the Tbilisi Portrait School, Flemish painting, medieval illuminated manuscripts — with his palettes frequently reverse-engineered from visual sources he encounters. In installation, he assembles paintings, sculptures, and found objects into spatial environments where paintings function not as self-contained images, but as fragments of a single, larger memory.

Chinchilakashvili holds a Doctorate in Artistic Research from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts and studied Scenography and Art History & Theory at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. He is a Lecturer at Budapest Metropolitan University. Recent solo exhibitions include The Story of a Thread Seen Through the Window, The Why Not Gallery, Tbilisi (2026), and The Lingering Presence, tranzit.hu, Budapest (2025). His work is held in the Krupa Art Foundation collection, Wrocław, and in private collections internationally.
